Privacy Policy
Effective date: 26 May 2026 · Last updated: 26 May 2026
01.Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how paidx.org ("paidx", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you visit the site. paidx is a free, public directory of open-source and free alternatives to paid software. We do not sell products, we do not require accounts, and we do not run our own analytics. The site is kept free by display advertising, occasional affiliate links, and voluntary donations.
By using paidx.org you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the site.
02.Information We Collect
paidx itself does not require you to create an account, log in, or submit personal information to browse the directory. We do not operate first-party analytics, server-side logs of individual visitors, or our own tracking pixels.
However, several categories of data may be collected by third-party services when you visit:
- Advertising partners (Google AdSense and the vendors it works with) may collect technical data such as your IP address, browser and device information, approximate location, time of visit, pages viewed, and identifiers stored in cookies. They use this to deliver and measure advertising.
- Affiliate networks (for example Impact and Skillshare's affiliate program) may set tracking cookies if you click an affiliate link, so that any resulting sign-up can be attributed to paidx.
- Hosting and content delivery providers may briefly record standard server log information (IP address, user agent, timestamp) for security and abuse prevention.
03.Cookies and Tracking Technologies
paidx does not set first-party cookies for analytics or profiling. Cookies and similar technologies on this site come from third-party advertising and affiliate partners. These cookies may be used to remember preferences, measure ad performance, attribute referrals, and personalize ads.
Most browsers let you view, manage, or block cookies in their settings. Disabling cookies may affect how ads on this site are personalized but will not prevent you from using the directory.
04.Google AdSense & Third-Party Advertising
You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting Google Ads Settings.
You can opt out of personalized advertising from many other participating third-party vendors at www.aboutads.info/choices (or, for European users, youronlinechoices.eu).
Even if you opt out of personalized advertising, you may still see ads on paidx — they simply will not be tailored to your inferred interests.
05.Affiliate Links
Some outbound links on paidx are affiliate links — for example through Impact, Skillshare's affiliate program, or similar networks. If you click one of these links and complete an action on the destination site (such as a sign-up or purchase), paidx may receive a commission. This is at no extra cost to you, and it does not affect which alternatives we recommend.
The directory itself ranks alternatives on quality and license terms, not affiliate revenue.
06.Local Storage
paidx uses your browser's localStorage to remember small preferences locally, on your own device. None of this data is sent to our servers. It includes:
- Your selected language (for example
paidx_lang). - Your selected pricing region (for example
paidx_region) used by the savings calculator. - The list of paid apps you have added to the savings calculator, plus any newsletter / "switch counter" state.
You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for paidx.org.
07.Third-Party Links
paidx links extensively to external software projects, official websites, donation pages, and reference resources. We do not control these destinations and are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Please review the privacy policy of any third-party site you visit through a link from paidx.
08.Children's Privacy
paidx is not directed at children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided information that ended up associated with paidx, please contact us so we can address it.
09.Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including:
- The right to access personal data held about you.
- The right to request correction or deletion of personal data.
- The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- The right to object to certain processing, or to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Because paidx does not maintain its own user accounts, most data subject to these rights is held by our advertising partners (Google) and affiliate networks. You can exercise opt-out rights for personalized advertising directly through the links in section 4, or contact us and we will direct you to the appropriate party.
10.Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, in the services we use, or in applicable law. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage where reasonable.
11.Contact
Questions, requests, or complaints about this policy can be sent to contact@paidx.org. We'll do our best to respond promptly.
